As a travel writer for over 30 years, Candy has worked in a wide variety of markets. For the last 16 years she’s focused her efforts on accessible travel—travel for people with mobility disabilities. She’s the founding editor of Emerging Horizons and the author of several accessible travel titles, including the classic, Barrier Free Travel; A Nuts and Bolts Guide for Wheelers and Slow Walkers.
Candy is also the author of Eating Well on the Road; A Travel Writers Strategy for Weight Loss, Healthy Eating and Lifestyle Changes. This book is based on Candy’s experience with high blood pressure and managing a healthy weight loss plan while on the road. It focuses on menu planning, product selection, restaurant choices and alternative meal options at home and on the road. Candy emphasizes that this is a lifelong endeavor, and appropriately named her method The Lifestyle Plan. The book also includes 100 low-calorie recipes, plus some handy strategies for dodging the sodium, calories and fat when dining out.
Candy continues to manage a busy travel schedule, and has successfully worked her Lifestyle Plan since 2009. She’s lost over 20% of her body weight and managed to control her blood pressure. Her husband Charles achieved similar results.
